New Smyrna Beach Redfish and Trout Challenge Final Results
Anglers fishing in the New Smyrna Beach Redfish & Trout Challenge finished up their weigh-ins today and Edgewater, FL, anglers David Brown and Gary Malphurs took first place in the Top Boat category. The two anglers also took first place in the Heaviest Trout division and landed second place in the Redfish division. The duo had a two-day aggregate weight of 29.46 pounds and won a total of $4,200. Two more Edgewater, FL, anglers - Nathaniel and Corey Lemmon - took top honors in the Redfish category with a two-day aggregate weight total of 25.88 pounds which earned them $900. In the Lady Angler division, Cheryl Lane of Maitland, FL, caught a 7.28-pound redfish that easily put her in first place. Day 1 Archive Lines in for the 2010 New Smyrna Beach Redfish & Trout Challenge was called today at 5:30 am and the 8th annual event was under way. A total of 90 boats headed out off of the space coast in search of redfish and trout. The fishing was pretty good today, out of 90 boats, 60 weighed eligible fish. After day 1, Chad McCormick of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Jeremy Davis of Edgewater, FL had an aggregate weight of 16.6 split between two redfish and a trout, good enough for a first place position. Trailing just behind, holding solid in second place is Patrick Rood and Joe Gurnbe with an aggregate weight of 15.70 pounds with two redfish and a trout. Nathaniel and Corey Lemmon and Tony Pantuso, are following just behind in third place with a total day 1 weight of 15.4 pounds. In the redfish division, Waylon Hess, Ben Coopen and Chad Evans of Deltona FL are the current leader with a combined weight of 14.2 pounds. Orlando, FL angler Chris Caywood and Chad Evans of Winter Park, FL are leading the pack in the trout division with a 2.9 pound total. In the Junior Angler Division, Colin Blanton earned his first place position with his 6.42 pound red. Currently, in second is Caroline Kelley with a 6.08 pound redfish following by Zack Woide's 5.46 pounder. Tomorrow will be day two and since all fish have to be in the legal slot, anything can still happen and chances are, the margin for the top spot will be pretty tight so make sure to swing by the Brannon Center tomorrow at noon to watch the weigh-ins. Lady angler, Danielle Cox out of Edgewater, FL caught a 6.7 pound redfish that is currently topping the board in the lady angler category. Following right behind is Yvonne Richards with her redfish that weighed 6.24. Currently in the third spot in the lady angler division is Valerie Colabella with a 6.14 pound redfish. Top Boat
2009 Archive 6th Annual New Smyrna Redfish-Trout Challenge Final Results John Fisher of New Smyrna Beach and Richard Farnan of Edgewater took top honors in the 6th annual New Smyrna Beach Redfish and Trout Challenge, presented by Hells Bay Boats Sunday at Riverside Park. The pair caught a total of 51.42 pounds. Each day of the two-day event, a team could weigh in two redfish and two speckled trout. Fisher and Farnan scored most of their weight with redfish, placing second in the spot-tail category with a two-day total of 27.98 pounds. Jeremy Davis of Edgewater and Chad McCormick of New Smyrna Beach teamed up for a second-place finish with 48.58 pounds. The team of William Brown and Davey Brown of Edgewater, plus Eugene Futch of New Smyrna Beach took third overall with 42.30 pounds. James Doolin of Edgewater teamed with Kenneth Bohannon of New Smyrna Beach to win the redfish competition with 25.44 pounds. Bill and Bob Fisher, both of Port Orange won the trout event with a two-day take weighing 28.92 pounds. Deanna Freeburn of Edgewater won the top award for the women by catching a 6.82-pound speckled trout. Caroline Kelley of Winter Park caught a 6.46-pound redfish to take bragging rights for junior anglers. In the fly category, Scott MacCalla of Debary enticed a spot-tail weighing 6.22 pounds. No anglers entered any trout caught on fly tackle. The tournament capped three days of FishStock 2008 festivities. Hosted by Sport Fishing, Marlin and Fly Fishing in Salt Water magazines, the 127-boat inshore event paid out about $20,000 in cash and prizes. Held Friday and Saturday, the 32nd annual New Smyrna/Daytona Beach Striker offshore tournament, presented by Trophy Boats, paid out more than $100,000 in cash and prizes to the 93 teams participating. FishStock 2008 also included a free boat show at Riverside Park in New Smyrna Beach. Spectators waiting to see the big ones could view the latest model boats and exhibits of art, fishing tackle, marine accessories and much more. Young anglers took home about 300 new fishing rod-and-reel combinations as part of the KidStock activities.
