In only 100 years, greater Miami and the beaches have become a
dynamic international crossroads of commerce, culture, year-round
sports and outdoor activities, entertainment, dining, shopping,
transportation, tourism and conventions.
Greater Miami and the beaches are spread over 2,000 square miles at
the southeastern tip of the Florida Peninsula. The Intracoastal
Waterway separates the Miami mainland and Miami Beach, located on
the Atlantic Ocean. This tropical cosmopolitan city boasts some of
the world's most beautiful beaches and ecological wonders such as
the Everglades, right next to one of the world's most vibrant urban
centers. More than 2 million people reside here, bringing to the
area a rich cultural diversity. The city awaits your
exploration!
DIVERSITIES ABOUND
Greater Miami and the beaches’ thriving art scene reflect the
strong multicultural influence that is an integral part of the
destination. Each year it continues to grow not only with the
contributions of its diverse and talented community, but also with
the accolades of renowned artists and organizations from around the
world.
Theater, dance, music, entertainment facilities and art museums and
galleries - Greater Miami and the Beaches have it all. A cultural
mecca awaits you in the tropical sunshine.
There’s no reason to travel far to catch what’s hot in
theater today. Greater Miami and the Beaches are far from cool with
its sizzling season of productions, from the most intimate theater
settings to renowned playhouses.
MUSIC
Perhaps the richest and most revered form of entertainment is
music. Ranging from classical and jazz to opera and symphonies,
Miami has an abundance of companies performing spectacular shows
year round.

Southern Florida, the Lowe Art Museum, the Miami Art Museum and the
Museum of Contemporary Art.
DISCOVER MIAMI’S WEATHER
Miami and the south Florida communities enjoy year-round comfort
because of the nearness of the Gulf Stream in the Straits of
Florida and the tempering effects of the Gulf of Mexico to the west
and north. Average temperature during the winter is nearly always
perfect, ranging from a low of 70 degrees to a high of 79 degrees,
and is only about 14 degrees lower than in the summer. Daily
variations throughout the year average only about 10 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, Miami’s average
precipitation during the month of April is just 2.81 inches.
Sunshine is abundant from December through April, and the area
receives slightly less than 25% of the annual rainfall during that
time. Numerous showers and thundershowers bring 53% of the yearly
total from June through October. The ample rainfall during the
summer and early fall keeps the local vegetation ripe with color
and entices cool ocean breezes to tickle the air. Virtually all
buildings are air-conditioned. In fact, a light sweater or jacket
is advisable to take the chill off the indoor climates. The
powerful rays of the sun also make it a good idea to wear a hat and
protective sunscreen when planning to be outdoors for long periods.
Otherwise, both men and women will be most comfortable in
lightweight resort wear.
Depending upon personal preference, there are plenty of
opportunities to dress formally, but the dress code and the
lifestyle are definitely laid-back.
DISCOVER MIAMI’S SHOPPING
Exciting, electrifying, enchanting and exhilarating -- that’s
Miami!
Miami is known for its dramatic skylines, diverse cultures,
gorgeous beaches, sensational night life, historical sites,
superior shopping and plenty of sunshine all year! A perfect
balance to your FishStock experience.
DISCOVER MIAMI’S NIGHT LIFE
The
American Riviera, Hollywood of the East, Sobe, or the Art Deco
District — whatever you call it, Miami’s South Beach is
hot year round. The embodiment of excess, South Beach is an
international playground offering nonstop night life, sandy shores,
unique architecture and plenty of eye candy.
Tourists and natives alike flock to Ocean Boulevard. Wild street
parties, neon-lit buildings and raucous nightclubs are the norm,
and luxury cars cruise up and down the strip where many come to
enjoy the scene more often than the cuisine.
When imagining the Miami scene, think “sophisticated”
-- even the lifeguard stands are art deco masterpieces. The long,
man-made beach stretches up the Atlantic for miles and although
perfect for early-morning runs, it’s also about the best spot
to view the city lights at night. For sheer excitement, see Miami
at night. Taste the best martinis, hang with the beautiful people,
stay at boutique hotels and laze on the sand.
GET AWAY FROM IT ALL
Head south out of Miami and you’ll discover the Florida Keys.
The island of Key West, situated a mere 90 miles from Cuba, is the
nation's southern most point. Its proximity to the Caribbean and
Cuba has helped develop the history and has been influential in
establishing the present culture.
Aside from the rich history behind the island, Key West boasts
turquoise waters, lush tropical foliage and a continual sunbathed
aura. Water lovers will enjoy diving on the only barrier reef in
North America. The reef houses corals and a wide array of tropical
fish species. Just beyond the barrier reef runs the Gulf Stream,
which provides some of the best game fishing in the world.
A relaxed atmosphere has made Key West an attractive living
destination for many anglers, Ernest Hemingway being the most
infamous. Galleries are plentiful and filled with works by a
variety of renowned local, national and international artists. The
island is also home to three performing arts theaters, a symphony
and a very successful annual literary seminar.
DISCOVER MIAMI’S
FISHING
South
Florida’s anglers enjoy a great
diversity of locales and species. From the secluded mangrove
backwaters that surround the Intracoastal Waterway to the rich
tropical setting of the Florida Keys and extending out to the warm
and colorful Gulf Stream, Miami has it all. Here’s what you
can expect during your visit to FishStock.
OFFSHORE
If your recreational tastes favor the offshore action, get ready
for fun. Anglers will find that the kingfish action remains pretty
good. The average fish are in the 9- to 15- pound range. Best bet
here remains the deeper reefs, in 90 to 150 feet of water. Live
bait will do the trick, but keep them on the small side. Average
pilchards and small threadfins work great.
Depending on weather conditions, you’ll see cobia on the
wrecks, following the huge manta rays. When you get a cobia close
to the boat, toss a jig toward the fish and work it a few times.
Sometimes others are following!
Dolphin remain a highly targeted species. You can find them up and
down the Gulf Stream edges and rips. Troll a ballyhoo along the
weed line, then look out! Once you hook up, be sure to keep one on
the line as you continue working the school with small jigs or
artificials.
UPPER KEYS
The sailfish action concentrates on a few areas. The areas around
Mollasses, Conch and Alligator are all good. Grab a local map and
mark your spots, or ask the locals where the action is. Live
ballyhoo slow trolled is usually the ticket. Most of the shallow
patch reefs are holding them, and you should be able to catch a
couple dozen pretty easily. While you’re ‘hoo fishing,
put out a live one rigged with wire and a stinger hook - there are
still plenty of muttons and mackerel on the patches.
FLAMINGO
Depending on the weather, there is always good fishing out toward
the Cape. The mouths of the rivers and creeks are best at the start
of the outgoing tide for snook, but in the meantime you can
probably catch your share of legal mangrove snapper right in the
creeks. Look for the strong eddies that are created as the tide
passes over the structure. Chances are there are snappers and maybe
a gag grouper, too!
