2009 Striker Tournament Cancelled
UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO WEATHER AND SEA CONDITIONS, THE 2009 STRIKER TOURNAMENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. ALL OTHER FISHSTOCK ACTIVITIES WILL CONTINUE AS SCHEDULED.
32nd Annual New Smyrna /Daytona Beach Striker Results Team Salty Marine took top honors in the 32nd annual New Smyrna/Daytona Beach Striker offshore tournament, presented by Trophy Boats Saturday. The Titusville team landed two kingfish weighing 65.2 pounds. Randy Beardsley caught one 33.5-pounder while Lauren Baguette landed a 31.7-pounder. Tuna Time, a boat out of Longwood, took second overall with 58.6 pounds. Justin Larson caught the biggest dolphin to make that weight. It was also the largest fish weighed in the event. Bring Two of Altamonte Springs, took third overall with a 56-pound dolphin that earned David Yovaish Jr., 15, top honors for the junior anglers. All-In pulled down fourth in the 93-boat competition with two tuna weighing 53.4 pounds. Marco Del Moral of Sorrento caught one weighing 29.9 pounds and one weighing 23.5 pounds. On the Pesci Grand, Nicholas LaFoe of Titusville won the king mackerel category with a 40.3-pounder. Tony Huerta of Longwood on the Misguided caught a 48.2-pound wahoo. Riding the Chasin Tail, Adriane Martinez of Groveland caught the largest tuna, a 48.9-pounder. Josh Thompson of Ponce Inlet caught the largest red snapper, a 26.2 pounder. He fished on the Sea Lover. Greg Rabitaille of Daytona Beach fished on the Double Trouble and landed a 39-pound grouper. Valerie Walker of Sanford took top lady angler honors with a 43.7-pound dolphin she caught on the Great White. Hosted by Sport Fishing and Marlin magazines, FishStock 2008 actually includes two tournaments, besides the offshore Striker tournament, the 6th annual New Smyrna Beach Redfish and Trout Challenge, presented by Hells Bay Boats, began Saturday. Each team could weigh in two redfish and two speckled trout. After Day One, the team led by Clifton Jones of New Smyrna Beach holds first in the redfish category with 13.80 pounds. In the trout category, the team captained by Gary Bell of Port Orange leads with 16.64 pounds. The team led by Jeremy Davis of Edgewater holds first in the top overall boat competition with 29.24 pounds of combined redfish and speckled trout. The Davis team caught 16.30 pounds to hold second in the trout category and 12.94 pounds for third in the redfish category. After one day of action, Deanna Freeburn of Edgewater holds first place among the ladies with a 6.82-pound trout. Carolyn Kelly of Winter Park caught a 6.46-pound redfish to lead among junior anglers. In the fly category, John Tarr of Edgewater caught a 4.36-pound redfish. The inshore event concludes Sunday. FishStock 2008 also includes a free boat show at Riverside Park in New Smyrna Beach. While perusing the boats, fishing fans might also sample some of the food and refreshments offered by various vendors in FishStock Village. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, people may also view exhibits of art, fishing tackle, marine accessories and much more. Sportsmen and women can also participate in any of several seminars conducted by several fishing experts. Young anglers, those between the ages of 6 and 16, may enjoy the KidStock activities. In a series of fishing clinics, they will learn such skills as basic knot tying, bait and tackle selection and other fishing techniques. Clinics begin at various times from 11 a.m. through 3 p.m. Sunday. FishStock 2008 continues through Sunday, May 25.
